Let me introduce myself

Welcome to my psychotherapy and counselling practice.  With a compassionate and client-centered approach, I am dedicated to helping individuals & their families navigate life's inevitable challenges and to strengthen their emotional flexibility.  By providing a safe and supportive space, I encourage clients to explore their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours without judgement.

Together we will work towards healing, recovery, growth and the long lasting change you desire.

Qualifications

I am a graduate of  The Toronto Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP),  a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic-oriented training institute.  The CTP has a long and distinguished history of contributions to psychotherapy. Opened as a training institute in 1986, the school has since graduated over 200 professional psychotherapists. The duration and intensity of the CTP program ensures that graduates experience in themselves those deeper levels of personal growth that prove vital in helping their clients to grow and develop. The CTP has a long and distinguished history of contributions to psychotherapy across Canada.  It was my honour to serve the CTP training community as the Assistant Registrar from 2012-2015.

“The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as long as we live.” – Mortimer Adler

I am committed to life long learning.  I expanded the scope of my practice to include couple's therapy in 2015, after completing the Externship program for Emotionally-focused Couples Therapy with Dr. Sue Johnson (co-founder of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy).

Since then I have trained and practiced The Gottman Method (Levels 1-2). At the beginning of therapy, couples are provided with a thorough assessment, which is based on over 30 years of research from the Gottman Love Lab.  The results of the Relationship Check-Up provide a comprehensive analysis of the couple's strengths and areas of challenge, serving as the foundation for our work together.  To accelerate and enhance the therapy, couples can benefit by purchasing The Relationship Builder (a web-based resource and home practice program), which has proven to be an effective home tool for sustaining long term relationship satisfaction.

These approaches are based on the neuroscience of secure-attachment theory.  Rounding off this evidence-based practice is the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) by Dr. Stan Tatkin. Stan's podcasts, youtube videos, and audio books are an easy way to familiarize yourself with this leading edge program. Simply google Dr. Stan Tatkin, the “couple bubble” for a quick start!

Based on the unique needs of the couple, I draw from each of the above in some combination with Psychodynamic Couple's Therapy.  Couples have the opportunity to use whichever tools they find to be most suited to their particular learning style, personalities, and time available for home practice.  This is a client-centred approach, which provides regular check-in's to hear what is working and what remains challenging. This way we can collaboratively make adjustments as needed.

Clinical Supervision

The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario established a policy in 2024 for clinicians to be considered qualified to supervise training therapists.  In 2016,  I completed the Advanced Level 3-Clinical Supervision program with the Adler Psychology Professional Graduate School in Toronto.  Since 2016 I have provided a competency-based supervision model, with an emphasis on psychodynamic therapy.  I provide both 1-1 supervision and group supervision.  My supervision work is supervised by senior supervisors in the community who are specialists in their scope of practice.   A sliding fee scale is available for students.

Affiliations

I am an active member of leading professional associations in the field of psychotherapy and counselling. These affiliations allow me to stay connected with industry advancements, ethical standards, and best practices in mental health care for individuals and couples.

In addition to convening association events and conferences,  I was an elected Board Member for the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT) serving in the role of Treasurer (2012-2015).

During the proclamation period of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), I was retained by Canada Curriculum Services to serve as a Program Reviewer for the purpose of reviewing psychotherapy training programs for their accreditation with the CRPO. Since then I participated in the Registration Pilot Program and Case-Based Assessment for the Quality & Assurance Program.

The Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis (TICP)   I served as the Community Clinic Coordinator for their new training initiative.  In collaboration with the TICP Board of Directors and Faculty, I developed the clinical procedures and the supervision curriculum for the TICP Student Clinic. The Clinic continues to provide student psychotherapists with the opportunity to provide psychodynamic therapy on an exceptionally low fee basis. The clinic opened its' doors to the community in the fall of 2021 and continues to welcome new clients on an ongoing intake basis.
